Although this post is named "How to go to Mikkeli from Ourense", I am going to tell how to go from Ponteareas, in the province of Pontevedra, where is the home of my parents. I left from there, so I will tell you how to do it from there. The difference is minimum, but it was my travel.
Well, first the most important thing is to buy the plane tickets. I recommend Ryanair or Scandinavian airlines.
I bought the tickets separately for going and coming back because I didn't know the dates with exactitude.
From Ponteareas to Mikkeli on September.
I used a search engine for selecting the flight. The cheapest one was with Spanair - Scandinavian Airlines. Once I have checked it, I went to Spannair web page to book it. My ticket was:
- Santiago de Compostela - Madrid. Duration: 01:10.
- Wait in Madrid. Duration: 03:00.
- Madrid - Copenhagen. Duration: 03:05.
- Wait in Copenhagen. Duration: 03:05.
- Copenhagen - Helsinki. Duration: 01:35.
The travel from Ponteareas to Santiago de Compostela was in the car of my parents, so the travel is almost the same for all Galician people. The price was about 180€. I could take one bag with 20Kg and a handbag with 5Kg. Then I took the bus from the airport to the Helsinki railway station and there I booked the ticket to Mikkeli. For the bus you can ask the schedules in the information desk in the airport. For the train schedules you can check here. In Mikkeli was Anni Turunen (an assistant of Ulla Vuorinen) to pick me up.

- Copenhagen - Helsinki. Duration: 01:35.
- Wait in Helsinki airport. Duration: 05:45.
- Helsinki airport to Helsinki railway station. Duration: 00:40 Price: about 4€
- Wait in Helsinki railway station. Duration: 00:20
- Helsinki - Mikkeli. Duration: 02:54. Price: 37.40€
TOTAL: 24:14 hours! 222€
From Mikkeli to Ponteareas on December.
This time I used only Scandinavian Airlines. I went to their web page and searched for flights from Helsinki or Tampere to Santiago de Compostela. The cheapest one was Helsinki - Barcelona, Barcelona Santiago de Compostela. It was 200€. It was good to find a flight with only one change of plain. The plan is:
- Helsinki - Barcelona. Duration: 03:50.
- Wait in Barcelona. Duration: 03:40.
- Barcelona - Santiago de Compostela. Duration: 01:20
TOTAL: 08:50 hours, 200€ + train from Mikkeli to Helsinki
From Ponteareas to Mikkeli on January
This time I booked Ryanair. For Ryanair you have to book the flights separately. You can see here the flight connections and you have to search for dates. This is the cheapest way to travel in Europe. The weight of the luggage is a little less, only 15Kg, but your hand luggage can be 10Kg, so you don't loose much weigh capacity. I found those flights:
- Santiago de Compostela - Francfort. Duration: 02:25. Price: 35€
- Wait in Francfort: 26:00 (I am going to meet a friend there).
- Francfot - Tampere. Duration: 03:35. Price: 20€
- Wait in tampere. Duration 02:00.
- Tampere - Mikkeli. Duration 03:55. Price: 47€
TOTAL: 34 Hours - wait in francfort = 8 hours. Price: 102€
