Hi!
I am from Budapest, so i gonna tell you how to get to Mikkeli.
- The easiest way is to come by plane. The price of the flight ticket is about 90.000HUF, but it depends on the flight company. For example i came here together with my friend and i bought MALEV ticket, he bought FinnAir ticket for the same flight, and i payed 90.000HUF and he payed 82.000HUF, despite using the same plane...
This price contains the retour flight as well. Hungary has only one airfield which has flight directly to Helsinki, it is called Ferihegy Airport. This airfield has three terminals: Ferihegy 1, Ferihegy 2A and Ferihegy 2B. Charter flights use the terminal Ferihegy1, and the other two terminals are for the other flights. As I used MALEV, my plane departed from Ferihegy 2. You can book and buy ticket online or in the MALEV offices as well. For me it was more simple to buy it online, so i just had to print my booking confirmation and transfer the money from my account.
- When you arrive to Helsinki, you have to use a bus to get to the center. The plane lands in Vantaa, what is about 30 minutes travelling by bus from the center. So when you come out from the terminal, there are two possibilities to choose. First there is a direct line to the center, it costs about 5EUR. Or you can use public transport - bus number 61 as i remember - but that is a bit complicate, becouse you do not have student discount yet, so i suggest to use the line of the Vantaa Airport.
- The bus takes you to the central railway station in the center of Helsinki.
There you can take out your student travelling card (Opiskelijakortti) what allows you to buy ticket with student discount. It is quite important in Finland, becouse it is more expensive than Hungary (but train always comes in time:)). So buying ticket to Mikkeli with student discount costs about 20EUR. The train is very comfortable and very fast comparing it with the hungarian trains... So enjoy the trip:)
- From Mikkeli railway station the tutors will take you to MOAS, what is the name of the student "village". If not you will find a map on this website...
